The VTM Hybrid converts pre-built new and existing class 3 to 7 vehicles to hybrid electrics.
Our partner, Cummins Crosspoint, installs the system onto any bare rear-wheel chassis or any pre-built or existing rear-wheel vehicle, regardless of fuel type.
The VTM Hybrid’s drive installs in the bus driveline, behind the transmission, as an optional driveline accessory. They hybrid motor generally replaces the existing carrier bearing.
Standard driveline yokes are used to connect the motor to shortened front and rear driveshaft.
The VTM Hybrid is totally self-contained and independent of the original chassis engine and transmission. Therefore, the hybrid system does not connect to the engine or transmission controls system or its sensors. Instead, the VTM Hybrid’s controller operates the motor based on accelerator and brake pedal inputs by the driver.
Installation of the VTM Hybrid actually lowers the bus center of gravity. The motor is supported between the frame rails by vibration-damped brackets. Other components are mounted under the bus floor.
Due to the range of vehicle classes and mounting in a standard driveshaft, the VTM Hybrid is designed to fit a wide diversity of front engine and rear wheel drive trucks and buses.
